Parks & Recreation
The City of Coppell maintains approximately 545 acres of public parks. This includes 17 parks, 13 facilities, 9 playgrounds, 12 tennis courts and approximately 20 miles of trails for public enjoyment. City crews work diligently to maintain these public spaces to ensure that all residents can enjoy the parks and activities offered.
The Coppell Parks and Recreation Departments hosts numerous special events each year, including keystone events such as Celebrate Coppell and Kaleidoscope. On average, City events draw approximately 51,000 attendees each year.
Coppell’s Parks and Recreation Department is CAPRA accredited, which is a distinction offered only to Parks and Recreation agencies that boast a high quality of operation, management and service to the community. This mark of distinction indicates that an agency has met rigorous standards related to the management and administration of lands, facilities, resources, programs, safety and services. Coppell is one of only ten cities in the state of Texas to receive this accreditation!
Gold Medal Finalist
Coppell Parks and Recreation was also selected in both 2019 and 2020 as a National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) Gold Medal finalist. The department joined three other finalists in our class (population 30,001 to 75,000) that competed for the Gold Medal. The Gold Medal Award for Excellence in Park and Recreation Management recognizes agencies from across the country for their ability to address the needs of those they serve through the collective energies of citizens, staff and elected officials.
It is a huge honor to be selected as a finalist, and signifies that Coppell Parks and Recreation is one of the top 16 Parks and Recreation agencies in the United States and in the top four for our population size. The passion and commitment of our staff to deliver the best, quality services at our parks, facilities, programs and activities that we maintain make our community truly outstanding, and a standout in the Parks and Recreation industry.
