NOAA All-Hazards Weather Radio

NOAA Weather RadioNational Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) All-Hazards Radios are used nationwide, and broadcast weather information directly from the National Weather Service (NWS) from a collaborative network of radio stations. During dangerous weather, they are activated automatically by the local NWS Weather Forecast Office (WFO) when the weather threatens their responsible domain.

Types of Radios

The City of Coppell highly recommends that you purchase an All-Hazards Weather Radio with the S.A.M.E. (Specific Area Message Encoding) and selectable alert features, and program it accordingly to deliver weather warnings when issued for our area.

Examples of consumer models that offer both these features include the Midland WR300 and Midland WR400.

Most weather radios operate on both an AC power wall adapter and battery backup, which is important for emergencies experiencing power failure, as traditional communication mechanisms (TV, radio, landline phone) may not function.
